lay frame with 5th wheel hitch?

Postby nosrex on Sat Feb 06, 2010 2:54 pm

I am rolling a 94 2500 converted dually with full 8 bolt conversion. I am wondering if anyone knows what i would have to do to lay frame and maintain my ability to have a 5thwheel hitch. If anyone is running a setup like this i would love to see pics...

thanks

Are you talking an actual 5th wheel or gooseneck? Either way you can save a lil room by mounting the pin slightly foward of the axle centerline (3-6'') Its actually better to do this since it distributes weight to the front, i dont know why more people dont do it when they build their crossmembers.

a 5th wheel take a much larger plate then a gooseneck. all you will have to do is setup around you notch higher then the pumpkin when layed out. it would be simple and very ver possible. i have a b&w turn over ball on mine and can drop in the 5th wheel attatchment if i hade it.

just build the mounts for the hitch on top of the bridge run a 4link with panhard and put big sleave bags behind the axle. rides great will & haul anything. I have 16,000 lbs of load capasity on the rear of mine. I a 48' inclosed a 50' wedge and have hauled skid loaders and excavaters that weigh in at 10,000 lbs or more.
