I am in Dually Heaven!!!!! Finally I find a place where there is more of my kind of truck

I have an 85 1 ton crew cab dually, It's been lowered, has Alcoa's and I recently removed my stroker BBC 496 and installing a 96 Cummins with NV4500 tranny. I wont go into my entire build but I tore it down to the frame in 2007 and after a year pulling with the BBC I decided to put a Cummins in. I am very close to completing the install and I am chomping at the bit to drive it.

The 496 was origanally slated for my stepside but I had an issue with the origanal BBC that I removed so I put it in the dually instead of the stepside, the 496 has a Scat 4.250 Crank, 6.385 H beam rods, SPR flat tops, and a set of 781 heads. Very good combo for the street mega torque for pulling but 6.5 MPG. So since I tow alot that would not work for very long so I did some research and started gathering parts for the Cummins swap. Even with the increased cost of fuel I should triple my milage and save some money.

6.5 mpg huh? Did the 496 have overdrive? Sorry for all the questions but I want more cubes, cam, and compression later.

I had a manual granny low 4 speed, I think with the 496 and either a 4LE80 automatic or a manual NV4500 the milage qould have been better. I did have massive torque though. Also I had a 750 Vac Sec carb so fuel injection would of helped as well.

Thanks for all the compliment's It's great to see so many square body dually's all in one place.

Thanks :)

I bought my motor mounts, Alt and AC brackets, valve cover,Oil filler delete, and belts from Auto World in Montana http://www.autoworldmt.com/ They were great to deal with and very helpfull on the conversion I highly reccomend them. I liked the Idea of using GM Alt ans AC so I didnt have to us the dodge computer and was able to modify the chevy factory wiring easily.
