what mod if any needs to be done to use stock center caps?

All you need to run the stock cap on the square body truck is the dual threaded lug nuts that accommodate the proper thread for the truck and the thread for the plastic cap.

They look like the 99-04 F350 stock wheels but there are several companies that make them aftermarket up to size 17" that would fit the older Chevy trucks.

I really like them and they look simple. and stockish if you put the stock centers on them.
