this may be a dumb question but i wanna ask before i commit. i know a gooseneck uses a 2 5/16 ball.. my question is, is there a special kind of ball used or is a regular 2 5/16 ok to use. i plan on mounting mine up this weekend. just wanted to make sure before everything is welded up. thanks

you get the one with the highest load rating, it's been forever that we have bought any so not sure what they were rated at. We allways went with the highest even though we weren't even close to the rating, but the price difference wasn't horribly different, so overkill is better haha.

High load ratings and gooseneck balls normally have a longer neck than normal receiver hitch balls.
