http://www.eviltwinsuspensions.com/While trying to decide which route to go with for my semi wheels on my dually, I stumbled across Alter Ego / Evil Twin Suspension. I contacted the business owner, Gavin Stone, about his wheels he had advertised. He sounded very knowledgeable and courteous. He gave me a quote under dealer pricing on all my part inquiries. Hundreds of dollars off list cost. Sweet!
Still undecided, I continued to browse…
I found some used semi wheels on Craigslist and called Gavin again to ask if I could send some wheels down to get milled. I was told I could drop them off at his local Las Vegas shop. He gave me the information, told me to talk to Travis. I was not able to contact this person. Calling Gavin back to explain, he said to leave them with the neighbor shop. Cool. He wasn’t charging me for shipping which is unheard of! He told me a week later he had a custom set of wheels for a great price. Liking the wheels and the price, I sent him my deposit through paypal. He was going to be attending the SEMA show here in Las Vegas, and offered to bring them down with him to avoid shipping costs if I could meet him at 1am when they arrived…once again, Sweet! This is a really generous person and would definitely get lots of business and referrals from me.
A couple months go by, got some body work done on my truck, almost ready for primer…shoot Gavin an email asking him cost and availability on adapters, wheel spikes, and caps. Total cost $855! He needs funds sent thru PayPal, requested as gift to avoid fees. No problem. Sent him the funds.
A weeks goes by… sent him a request for a receipt and tracking numbers. He responds letting me know the caps were going out that day, adapters the next. Somehow stock numbers were incorrect and new set was going to be made. He apologized and would send the tracking numbers the next day. No problem…
So 2 more days goes by….Emailed him again… Did he ship the stuff? Didn’t answer my phone calls, went to a voicemail that was full, and wouldn’t return my email.
Another 3 days goes by….get an email. Stuff was shipped but he’s on vacation. Doesn’t know the tracking numbers.
….6 days have gone by since last email…responding to my requests of tracking numbers and status…they should have been here already….all I got was “still on vacation.”
Couple days later, I finally received the first box claimed to be shipped weeks after he initially said they had been shipped. Still no adapters. Called him up – he answered! Said they were shipped out like he said, but they were apparently lost in Salt Lake City. I requested a tracking number. Wouldn’t give me tracking number only offered to have his rep look into it and would get back to me. WTF? I need a tracking number.
So…on Feb 22nd, a whole 20 days after he said he was shipping my stuff, he tells me his rep will look into this and he’ll get back to me?? He’s blowin smoke up my @ss! Why wont he give up this tracking number? What am I supposed to think? If he shipped it like he claims, he would have given the tracking number to verify this story and shut me up, right? Wrong.
Two more days…he sent me an email letting me know that the UPS rep called him and said they couldn’t find the box. Said he’d have new ones out to me in a few days.
As of today, a month of waiting, I’m done. I’ve requested a refund for the adapters I’ve yet to receive. He claims he is going to refund the money through Paypal. I contacted PayPal directly and they’re unable to do anything for me because the money was sent as a “gift” instead of goods or services. Coincidence?
So what started out to be a good business relationship has been soiled because of this situation. I don’t trust story tellers. If he didn’t ship the package like he said, all he had to do was say so. Not send me emails to try to pacify me until he got around to doing it. I would have been okay with a “Sorry, I haven’t gotten them out yet… Something got held up… Something didn’t happen like it should’ve” Hopefully he’ll refund the money, I’ll update either way. Don’t want anyone else to be taken as a fool in dealing with this person…I know I’m not one.
