Here’s the issue:

I go to start the truck a few weeks back and it turned over and started fine, but when I let go of the key, it kept turning over. It only did it for a few seconds.

Flash forward to last week. Went to start the truck and the same scenario happened only this time, the starter wouldn’t stop turning. I even pulled the key out of the ignition. The only way to get it to stop was to disconnect the battery.

Figured the contacts in the starter arc’d due to a low battery or something of the like. I replaced the starter and the battery, went to fire it up, and the same thing happened. Brand new starter kept turning over even after the engine fired.

I have an idea what the problem is, but I wanted to throw it out there to see if anyone else has had any experience with this sort of thing.

Negatory...switch and actuator rod are A-okay.

Only link left is the wiring between the switch and the starter…guess I'll have a looksie tonight. Maybe I have sumthin' touchin'.

Wires look good...still have the same issue. Shimmed the starter...no dice. Anybody have a wiring diagram for the starting system? This is really getting to me.

One other note of interest...the 'start' lead is constantly hot. I've already replaced the ignition switch. Is there a relay that I'm missing.

I've also been told to see if the neutral safety switch is going to ground.

If anyone has any insight, I'd appreciate it. I'm about to set this sucker ablaze.

sorry I couldn't help you more saturday when you called but I had a lot going on at that moment

so you've chased wires pull you fuse block apart theres a bolt in the center of it on the engine side open it up and see if something is arcing also pull the junction block loose from the fire wall so its not touching and see if that makes any differance

you might just need to check every conection point

just something to think about once I had a tail light problem that I chased for weeks It would burn out bulbs or fry fuses some time both and some times I'd lose all my lights I finaly traced it to the fuse block the terminal had broke loose and it would touch other terminals

good luck and happy hunting

Replaced the neutral safety switch. Seemed to fix it...kinda.

It did it to me once again after I replaced the switch, but it's been fine since then. I don't quite trust it. I still have a 5/16" nut driver on my dash in case I need to disconnect the battery.
