The dually that I scored on last week has a blown motor and is locked up .So do I pull the motor and trans at the same time and do I remove the front to do it.My cherry picker doesn't lift that high.

Some people like it one way, others like it another. It's a hell of a lot easier IMO to get the torque converter engaged (or clutch aligned, if standard) and transmission bolted onto the engine with both of them out of the truck. Yeah pull the clip...keeps you from having to do that crazy angle to get the engine & trans out, even if your picker could go high enough. Gives you a lot more room to work.

If you weren't already thinking it, a trick I do to not make a huge transmission mess is to knock a yoke off the same type of driveshaft and use it like a tailshaft plug, run heavy zip ties or mechanic's wire through it and around the tail housing so it won't slip out.

Please be sure to check out my truck shop projects and remember: if I made it look easy,
it's only because you weren't here to see me kicking parts, cussing, and throwing tools.
