well in my truck right now i have a 4.11 gear, and i was wanting to change it so i can get on the highway and do the speed limit without over reving my engine......would it be better to do a 3.73 or a 3.42 ? im not going to be towing alot of heavy things with the truck....or could i leave the 4.11 gear and get a 700r4 ? i have a turbo 350 trans in the truck right now..... thanks

YEA, I've got a 700R in a 83 truck with the TCI lock up kit and I can't get it to shift right I'm about to rip it out and hunt down a T350

look two post and we've already gone off topic.

alright...lets forget about the devil 700r4... lol so now its between the 3.73 or the 3.42 gear , ive heard of guys putting a 3.73 in and doing good on the interstate but would the 3.42 be to high and bog down the motor at low speeds......?....

no, the 400 is a 3spd like the T350 the 700r is a 4spd its basicly a T400 with a overdrive and electric lock up converter. you can build the 700r to handle the power but you can tie up a lot of money in a hurry

now we can go back to the rearend gears if you want

i recomend the 3.73......the 3.42 is gonna be a really high gear for that heavy of a truck. You will actually burn more fuel with a 3.42 because the motor is gonna have to work harder to get up to speed.....
